Property Overview
DesignerBuilder: Henry K. Pierce beautiful Victorian Downtown Santa Cruz. History of the house speaks for itself. Words from the granddaughter: Original Property Owners: Corneilius Capplemann (My Great Grand father) Originally house was the curly redwood used in the sliding doors. The house directly behind was the Capplemann home and the property ran through to Union Street (then Park Street). The two daughters Lilly (my grandmother) and Corneilia were each given half of the Union Street frontage as wedding presents. This other lot contains the "spite" house. The most outstanding feature of the house was the curly redwood used in the sliding doors. There was a barn behind the house where the garage and apartment are now. I think the horses were kept there or at a stable on Union Street. The car was always stored in a rented garage two lots easterly of the house, My great grandfather, Corneilius Capplemann, came to Santa Cruz in 1869. He had left Germany as a boy of 16 and sailed to New York. He then sailed around the Horn to California after hearing of the gold discovery. After mining gold he settle in Marysville before moving to Santa Cruz. There was a detailed history of him in the old Santa Cruz library. There is so much history to this home come and see for yourself!!
